A collection of thoughts and memories of Lyn

As the designer for this very site, I was always in very close contact with my Grandma, Lyn. We worked so well together because we each had the same vision for the site. Every medical diagram on the site began with her drawing a few sketches, which I scanned and coloured, and, in some cases, animated. She was very picky about the diagrams, because she wanted everything to be as accurate as possible, so we would go over the same drawings several times until it was just right.

Initially, she wanted me to draw a very childish looking portrait of her in front of a blackboard as sort of a mascot for the site. She instantly fell in love with my drawing of her and insisted I post it on the main page.

Several months later, she was contacted by the University of Toronto Medical Alumni Association Magazine, MAAMatters, to be featured in the Class Notes section (News from Your Classmates) for the Winter 2004 edition. They requested a photo of her to accompany the article. She didn't want her classmates to view her as an old woman, so she suggested that they use my illustration of her in its place. They were happy to oblige, but she absolutely insisted that her grandson get all the credit for the drawing. She always looked out for me in that way.

When I went to visit her in the hospital on New Years Eve, she gave me her copy with my illustration of her. I will always treasure it.

I only met Dr. Lyn once, and that was through her loving son Michael. He invited me to one of the family's famous Christmas Brunch's. She left a lasting impression on me, and I will remember that day forever. Thank you Mike for sharing that wonderful day with me!

Rest in Peace, in the arms of an Angel, may you find comfort there. You were truly loved by all who knew you.

I never met Dr. Lyn in person but her spirit resounded throughout her work.

She graciously shared with me how she became a physician, her faith and love for our Bartter's Group.

I am grateful for her dedication and passion for helping others--like me.

Although I, my wife and eldest daughter Suzanne, here in Jakarta/Indonesia, as well as our youngest Sandrine and her husband Brian Broekhof in Holland, never had the honour to meet with Dr. Lyn Sutherland, we had a deep feeling of love for her... and admiration for her great dedication to her medical profession..

Mike told us, that when he visited her on her sick-bed, before he left for Jakart/Indonesia, that Mother was so happy Mike's getting married to our daughter Sylviane and gave her blessings..

Irene, Mike's sister sent us an e-mail informing that Mother Lyn wanted Mike to stay as long as possible with us and our family in Jakarta... although she knew that maybe she wouldn't meet Mike and his bride again after their return in Canada..

Rest in peace, Dr. Lyn..
we all will meet and get acquainted in this hereafter..
May God bless us all... amen

TO THE FAMILYS OF MY DEAR FRIEND LYN,

I WISH TO EXPRESS MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO ALL OF YOU. MY HEART IS SAD TO LEARN OF THE PASSING OF GRANDMA LYN AS I CAME TO KNOW HER.

I MET HER ONLINE BACK IN 1999 WHEN WE FIRST STARTED THE BANANA BUNCH. SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR ALL OF US. WE BECAME VERY CLOSE AND FORMED A SPECIAL BOND. THIS WAS ALSO THE TIME WHEN MY GRANDMOTHER PASSED AWAY FROM OVARIAN CANCER. SHE WAS SUCH A COMFORT TO ME AND CORRESPONDING WITH HER WE BECAME GOOD FRIENDS. I WOULD TELL HER STORIES OF MY FAMILY AND SHE WOULD DO THE SAME FOR ME.

I WAS SHOCKED TONIGHT TO LEARN OF HER PASSING, I REGRET NOT SPEAKING TO HER LATELY BECAUSE I HAVEN'T BEEN ONLINE DUE TO COMPUTER PROBLEMS, I JUST PURCHASED A NEW COMPUTER AND WAS BACK ONLINE WHEN I DECIDED TO GO ON HER WEBSITE AND LEAVE HER A MESSAGE, INSTEAD I READ SHE PASSED AWAY.

I'M NUMB AND FILLED WITH SUCH EMOTIONS.

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE SORROW AND PAIN YOUR FAMILY MUST FEEL. PLEASE EXCEPT MY HEARTFELT SYMPATHY. SHE WAS A VERY SPECIAL PERSON AND SHE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

I WILL LIGHT A CANDLE IN HER MEMORY IN MY GROTTO I WILL ASK THE BLESSED MOTHER TO KEEP HER CLOSE TO HER, AND PRAY THAT SHE FINDS PEACE IN HEAVEN. THE WEBSITE IS JUST A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO MY DEAR FRIEND AND I KNOW IN MY HEART SHE WOULD BE SO PROUD. I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR CREATING SUCH A MASTERPIECE. SO NOW WHEN I FEEL LONELY AND JUST WANT TO SEE MY DEAR FRIEND I WILL GO TO HER WEBSITE AND VISIT HER.

IF TEARS COULD BUILD A BRIDGE, I'D CLIMB RIGHT UP TO HEAVEN AND TAKE YOU HOME. GOD SAW YOU WERE TIRED AND HE SAW HOW YOU SUFFERED SO. GOD WRAPPED HIS LOVING ARMS AROUND YOU AND GUIDED YOU TO HIS LIGHT. MAY YOU NOW KNOW ONLY LOVE AND COMPASSION IN YOUR NEW HOME CALLED HEAVEN. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN YOU'LL ALWAYS BE IN MY THOUGHTS, PRAYERS, AND HEART.

SO SAD IN HAZLETON.
